Missy and Merri had a nice little vacation and therefore have a few things to talk about—and more references to clown romance! Gothic fiction, things that aren’t necessarily good but are enjoyable, and, of course, a Courtship update.
Mistakes: Apparently, Missy is just straight-up wrong about Mexican Gothic being/feeling YA. Then again, while reading Mexican Gothic, she saw A Court of Silver Flames shelved in YA, so who knows. Also, the word Missy was looking for in the Persepolis section was hijab (the veil required for women to wear by law after the revolution, which covers the face and neck). There are multiple other kinds of veils, such as the chador, a cloak covering the full body, or a khimar, which covers the head, neck and shoulders. It’s unclear whether the teachers in the graphic novel were wearing a hijab, chador, khimar, or something else as the word itself is never mentioned.
Warnings: The section on Secrets of Playboy contains discussion of abuse, sexual assault, and other unsavory topics. If this discussion would cause you distress, please skip it.
