We’re back with episode 42, discussing AI, specifically of the female or female-coded variety. Topics include the films Her and Ex Machina, and the comic Alex + Ada by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn, how those stories are in conversation with one another, what gender has to do with robots, and whether artificial intelligence is even that great of an idea, anyway. Special thanks to our friend Stephani for the donuts. Oh, and her intelligent conversation.
We’re back, and this time we’re venturing into the dark and gritty world of film noir, the only type of dark and gritty world Missy can stand. We’re looking at the classic roots of film noir in 1944’s Double Indemnity and the evolution of neo-noir in 1982’s Blade Runner, discussing the tropes and characteristics that characterize one of the most parodied film genres.
